A North Texas nonprofit is sending foster youth to college with fully decked-out dorm rooms.

Move-in day is the part people can see. What the cameras catch is a room being built — the bedding, the desk lamp, the small things that turn four walls into somewhere you want to come back to.
What they don't catch is the year that follows: the mentors, the quarterly gatherings, the wellness workshops, the phone that still gets answered in March.

For the first time in my life, I love my space. I could have a vacation in my room because I'm so elated with it. Having a decorated room does wonders to my soul. I cannot adequately describe the impact. Having a space I can be proud of has changed me. Not only did you all decorate the room, you gave me important supplies I needed. I feel normal. I feel like I'm experiencing a life and privilege I've never had before. I've got something I've never had before — a home. Your nonprofit has inspired me.
