A North Texas nonprofit is sending foster youth to college with fully decked-out dorm rooms.

Move-in day is the part people can see. What the cameras catch is a room being built — the bedding, the desk lamp, the small things that turn four walls into somewhere you want to come back to.
What they don't catch is the year that follows: the mentors, the quarterly gatherings, the wellness workshops, the phone that still gets answered in March.

For the first time in my life, I love my space. I could have a vacation in my room because I'm so elated with it. Having a decorated room does wonders to my soul. I cannot adequately describe the impact. Having a space I can be proud of has changed me. Not only did you all decorate the room, you gave me important supplies I needed. I feel normal. I feel like I'm experiencing a life and privilege I've never had before. I've got something I've never had before — a home. Your nonprofit has inspired me. I want others to have what they haven't had before. I want to help other foster youth experience normalcy and quality in their space. Thank you.
My room makes me feel safe. It's the first place I can truly call home. Everything around me, from the furniture to the little details, was given to me by people who care about me. It reminds me that I'm supported and loved.
