Did you know that only 3-7% percent of foster youth graduate college with a bachelor’s degree while more than 70% express a strong desire to attend college?

Greater Than Expectations understands that students from foster care backgrounds often face unique challenges as they transition from high school to adulthood and into higher education. Many lack the consistent support systems and resources other students rely on making college persistence and completion more difficult.

In 2026 Freshman Fresh will mark its fourth year of partnership and impact demonstrating the program’s sustainability growth and long term commitment to supporting foster youth in higher education.

GTE is proud to continue its partnership with UNT Denton’s PUSH Program to support foster youth entering their first year of college at the University of North Texas.

More Than Move In Day

While Freshman Fresh Move In Day is a meaningful starting point the program extends far beyond dorm room support. Freshman Fresh is a year long experience designed to foster belonging confidence and success.

Program highlights include:

• Ongoing mentorship for participating students throughout their first year

• Game nights and community-building activities that create normalcy, connection, and belonging

• Life skills experiences focused on personal growth and independence

• Webinars and workshops covering topics such as self-advocacy, navigating social dynamics, financial literacy, and mental and physical wellness

• Quarterly outings that provide opportunities for fun, networking, and relationship building

Freshman Fresh offers both in person and virtual opportunities ensuring flexible and accessible support for all participating scholars.
