About the Program
Greater Than Expectations (GTE) is committed to empowering students from foster care backgrounds as they transition from high school into college and adulthood. Through its Freshman Fresh program, now entering its fourth year of impact in 2026, GTE demonstrates a sustained commitment to access, equity, and long-term student success. In partnership with the University of North Texas Denton’s PUSH Program, Freshman Fresh supports foster youth entering their first year at UNT with more than just Move-In Day assistance. The program delivers a year-long experience that builds confidence, belonging, and independence through mentorship, life-skills development, workshops, and community-building activities. With both in-person and virtual engagement opportunities, GTE ensures flexible, consistent support that meets students where they are. Together, these efforts help foster youth not only persist in college, but truly thrive.
